The Agric Team of Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) has commenced operations to fastrack fulfillment of the present adminstration's agenda to boost farming production and entire agricultural value-chains that will create food security, job opportunities and industrialization.

Speaking during a familiarisation tour to Saibu Community and Olibori Village, Obafemi Owode Local Government, the Environmental Consultant OGSTEP, Prof. Kola Adebayo, said the exercise was to verify and get acquainted with rural communities who had established interest in OGSTEP programmes.

Adebayo added that the World Bank assisted programme, which would run for five years was aimed at contributing to the economic transformation of the State and would create a baseline study, farm and farmer registrations and assist farmers with viable business plan that would link them to off takers towards easy turn-over of farm commodities.

He hinted further that the project also aims at  bringing about rural infrastructure ranging from storage facilities, irrigation system and feeder roads for ease of  transportation of goods, urging beneficiaries to participate actively and be truthful in their engagements in order to reap the full benefits of the programme.

"By the time this project runs its course, value addition would be a core component of agriculture in Ogun State and the objectives of job creation and  enhancement of farmers' income would be achieved and the economic landscape of the State through agriculture would thrive", Adebayo said.

One of the farmers, Mr Joseph Adenekan, lauded government for the initiative, expressing optimism that it would boost their knowledge and launch them into practical modern farming and in-turn boost their standards of living.
