Administrative Officers in the Ogun State Civil Service have been called upon to be proactive and start improving on their duties as they prepare to step into the management level and take on higher responsibilities in the Service.

The Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun made the call while declaring open a 2-day workshop with the theme " Improving Management Capacity of Middle Level Officers in the State Civil Service" put together for middle level administrative officers in the State Public Service organised by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, held at the Staff Development Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

According to the Head of Service, there is the need for the officers to start acquiring necessary skills that will improve their duties, not only as middle level officers, but more importantly, in their next level as Management Staff.

"By becoming management staff, you will be taking up more and higher responsibilities that require extra dedication and managerial skills required for the effectiveness and efficiency of your next level. This is not to scare you of taking higher responsibilities, but it is important that you possess necessary skills that will prove you worthy, not only as management staff, but as proud inheritors of excellence that the Public Service of Ogun State is known for" Alhaja Ottun charged.

She said the workshop was organised to expose the officers to key elements and principles such as team work, sound decision making, dedication and loyalty that would be expected of them to enhance their efficiency in their next level in their various MDAs and the Public Service at large; with a charge to them to avail themselves of all that will be reeled out to them at the 2-day training.

"Take advantage of the opportunities that this workshop provides in order to imbibe and master the basic principles and skills that will help you not only as management staff, but to build successful careers in the Service" the Head of Service said.

Alhaja Ottun also charged the workers to reciprocate government's kind gestures by being more professional, dedicated, proactive and show right attitudes in the course of discharging their various schedules, while the enviable tradition of the administrative cadre through proper comportment and imbibing of the ethics and etiquettes of the Public Service be upheld.

In a remark, the former General Manager/Group Head, Oodua Investment Company Limited, Dr. Morakinyo Oloyede appreciated the State Government for making the training to take place despite fund challenge and called on the participants to take good advantage of the training by developing themselves through the windows of opportunities open to them, adding that learning distinguishes, they should seek it always.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, while appreciating the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration for approving trainings for the workforce in different cadres said the training was to ensure that the trainees acquire the necessary skills towards efficient and effective service delivery in the State.

Mrs. Fajounbo said as officers at the verge of management, they must always be conversant with all Public Service rules and make the ethics part of what they do everyday while discharging their duties in order to take Ogun to the next level.

In a paper titled "Personal Effectiveness and Enhancement Programme: Personal Life Vision and Skills for Success", the Resource person, a faculty member, Long Strides Association, Mr. Wale Oyenekan charged the participants to fully imbibe the importance of having a life vision, adopt the skills required for success in life, build self confidence and embrace various possibilities open to them for effective discharge of their statutory duties.
