Ogun : NSCDC Arrests Couple Over Abuse Of a Minor

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps  (NSCDC) in Ogun State has arrested a couple- 53-year-old Husayn Ahmed Rufai and 30-year-old Husain Latifat in Abeokuta for abusing a five-year-old minor.

The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogun State Command, Commandant Kolawole Taiwo disclosed this while parading the suspects in Abeokuta Ogun State Capital on Monday.

The Commandant disclosure that a whistle blower had reported on condition of anonymity  that the victim, Saidat Oseni was locked up in a building by the couple for six months.

The Commandant stressed that the victims who is a younger sister of the wife was rescued in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and taken to the State Hospital, Ijaiye,Abeokuta for immediate medical attention.

During the rescue, he said, the victim(Saidat Oseni) was the only person in the building while her guardians had travelled to Igbo-ora in Oyo State. 

Investigations revealed that the victims (Saidat Oseni) is a relative to the female suspect and have also lost her mother while the father works in Edo state.

The Commandant said "the matter is a case of wrongful abuse of a minor and child neglect.It's also unjust to have uncaringly kept her in a room against her fundamental human rights which is also a case of child abandonment. 

Commandant Taiwo said "the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command(NSCDC) is particularly poised to protect the rights of all Nigerians.

"We charged the general public to be careful of whoever their children lives with as no one would care for what is ours like we would have done. 

"Appropriate steps and sanctions would be determined in the suspects after thorough investigations" he submitted.
