He made this assertion while speaking at the 11th Triennial Conference Merit Award held in Abeokuta on Saturday .
In his address, Senator Amosun stressed that the increasing complexity of global affairs and rising tensions across ethnic and religious lines make it essential for Muslims to actively contribute to global peace and mutual understanding.
“In a world of pluralism, characterized by diversity of thoughts, culture and belief, Islam and Muslims must play significant roles in shaping, enriching, and contributing to the growth of the global society,” he stated.
Amosun noted that the core pillars of Islam—faith, prayer, charity, fasting, and pilgrimage—emphasize mutual understanding, tolerance, and compassion. He lamented, however, that hatred and division have overtaken the original intention of religion as a unifying force.
“Our pluralism should be seen as benefit for all and for the purpose of achieving togetherness in humanity, and not for the disharmony of any sort, we must know that pluralism in religion is not for the purpose of one religion to displace another. It is pertinent to state that in a pluralistic world where are multiple faith and different fields coexist, the roles of Muslim extend beyond religious practice. “
The former governor called on Muslims to be proactive in promoting the true values of Islam by emphasizing peace, justice, equity, and human rights in their interactions and contributions to society.
“As Muslims, we owe it a duty to engage constructively to showcase Islams core value, and their relevance to a pluralistic society.”
Amosun, however, acknowledged the damaging impact of the activities of extremist groups like ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, and Lakurawa in Nigeria.
He said these groups have distorted the public perception of Islam and cast a shadow over the efforts of genuine Muslims working for peace.
He also condemned the recent violence in Plateau State and other regions resulting from land disputes and ethnic tensions, describing them as needless and preventable if respect for human dignity and equality is upheld.
“Their neauferious activities have given a poor representation of the crucial roles and relevance of Islam and Muslim in the world. In the same thing, the various killings and meimings in the name of land border crisis for example, the efore a land disput national state, and the recent killing in plateau states were needless. If we respect the sanctity of humanity in us, no tribe should be seen as superior to another, no ethnic group should be regarded as inferior in no ramnification”.
In his lecture, the National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abdur-Rahman Ahmad reiterated the importance of accountability and transparency, especially among public office holders.
Citing the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, he emphasized that individuals would be held accountable for their lives, youth, wealth, knowledge, and how they applied it.
“ Society consists of individuals. When individuals are good, society will also be good. When they sound, when they are conscious of their duties the society at large will also be sound, healthy and progressive.
So the message of Islam is meant for members of Ansar-Ur-Deen alone; it is meant for all Muslims and by the way, it is meant for all humanity.
“I think it is a direct message, everyone has to be transparent and accountable and It is a message like I said not just meant for members of Ansar-Ur-Deen alone it is for everyone particularly those who are holding public offices”.
The event concluded with the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals, recognizing their contributions to the progress of Nigerian society.
