Family, Friends Storm Abeokuta For Ogun Businessman, Olakunle Soetan Chieftaincy Installation

Family, friends and business associates on Monday stormed Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun state to celebrate the installation of Otunba Olakunle Soetan as the new Borokini Adinni and Sarunmi of Ijemo-Egbaland.

The celebration was preceded by Otunba Soetan's installation, held at Ijemo, a stone throw to the Ake Palace.

It was a classy gathering of friends, family and other well wishers who were decked in colourful attires, and exhibited conviviality at the popular Club Cincinnati, Chicken Republic in Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta.

The latest chief in town, the new Borokini himself was like a happy cat, prancing up and down in happiness at adding another cap to his collection. Even as he may continue to play the game of thrones for other future achievements.

Olakunle Soetan is a philanthropist and a businessman. He worked with the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole as a Personal Assistant.

The welfare of Ijemo people and the Egbaland descendants remains dear to his heart. Little wonder he is in jubilant mood and ordered that guests at the venue of the ceremony be given a nice treat while musicians thrilled them to a realm of entertainment.

After years of waiting to have a platform and opportunity to serve as the voice of his people, Chief Soetan now wears a title that will avail him that opportunity and bring development to the yearning community.

The title was bequeathed on him by Ijemo elders after consultation and thorough search for who will fit, and Soetan was coronated amidst pomp and pageantry.

In an interview with newsmen, the elated Soetan said "I feel so glad seeing family and friends around me. I promise to support the youths and cooperate with the elders as well in order to bridge the gap between elders and the youths so that we can bring about development.

"Being a chief demands a serious responsibility. One must be accessible and be ready to respond when called upon. Also, one must try to bring development to the community. Whatever I bring to Ijemo in terms of development will reflect in Egbaland at large. Ijemo is a town under Egba."

A friend and co-landlord to the host, Hon. Olujimi Olanrenwaju described him as someone that could be entrusted with a lot of responsibilities.

Olujimi who works with the News Agency of Nigeria, Lagos Directorate stressed that Soetan is someone who is up-and-doing, adding that he is always ready to serve the community where they both reside.

"From my point of view, I can say that the new Ijemo chieftain has been able to contribute immensely to the community in no little capacity. I said that because in my own street where we both built our houses, he has been able to put street light. He is just one in a thousand in the community where I built my own house. When it is late at night, we usually have light everywhere in the street. He is a good co-landlord.

"He has started on a very good note, I will want to encourage him to do more. To build on a very good milestone that he's started. I will also encourage people of likemind to follow his steps."

Omoyele Fatunbi Kazeem a building engineer and businessman who is also a close friend of the new chief in town, described him as resourceful, hardworking and intelligent.

His words "Soetan is a man who keeps to his words. He is really worth the title."
