Abiodun congratulates Odegbami at 70

The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated a former Nigerian international and sports administrator, Segun Odegbami, as he clocked 70 years.

Abiodun, said Odegbami, through sports, particularly football, had brought accolades to Nigeria, Africa and his state, Ogun.

The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, on Sunday, described the former Green Eagles winger and 1980 African Nations Cup winner, as an enigma and one of the finest players in the round leather game.

He added that the septuagenarian as a sports administrator, has added value to sports management in the country and in the continent of Africa.

Abiodun, who recalled how 'Mathematical' Odegbami mesmerized his opponents on the football pitch in the 70s and 80s, noted that his contributions to the game, both on and off the field, will forever be remembered and treasured by generations yet unborn.

While lauding him for the establishment of a football college at Wasimi, Ogun State, the governor said the ex-international has opened a vista for budding sports talents to bloom into global recognition.

Abiodun noted further that the establishment of a sports radio station in the capital city of Abeokuta by Odegbami, reinforced his passion for the development of sports, not only in Ogun, but Nigeria and even beyond.

He prayed for a long life for the septuagenarian, whom he described as pride of Ogun, expressing delight at the achievements of the football icon.
