The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi who disclosed this on Tuesday said, the football tournament was being organised to discover and nurture young talented footballers to stardom.
Majekodunmi commended Governor Abiodun on the grassroots development of sports in the State, stressing that it would give pupils access to self-discovery.
He spoke during a press conference, held at the NUJ secretariat in Abeokuta as part of activities to kickstart the 3rd edition of the Governor’s Cup for all public primary schools in the state.
Majekodunmi stated that governor Abiodun has always been a pillar of support in all sectors in stressing that he had done so well, particularly for bankrolling the 3rd, edition of the governor’s cup in the state.
He added that Sporting activities at the Basic Education level provided a good platform through which talents are discovered and nurtured to stardom, thereby commending gov Abiodun for keying into the grassroots sports development as that would enable the State to produce more winners of gold medals and laurels both in National and International sports competitions.
He noted that the world would not forget the achievements of Ogun indigenous in sports activities, noting Segun Odegbemi, Falilat Ogunkoya, Anthony Joshua and Tobi Amusan’s feat could be attributed to the opportunities and support given to them to exhibit their talents right from elementary school.
Majekodunmi however, stated that it is worth encouraging learners to participate more in gaining experience and attaining a better spirit of sportsmanship as the governor’s Cup has given a golden opportunity to learn and teach the pupils the quantities of sport.
