Declaring the event open, the State Commandant, Niyi Ajibola noted that there should be more collaboration and synergy amongst security agencies especially in the area of combating acts of violence and other negative vices in and around Ogun State.
Ajibola threw more light on the need for harmonious relationship and professional trust amongst security agencies aimed at bringing the acts of terrorism to a stand still", he added.
In her remarks, the former Provost, Civil Defence College of Security Management, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, ACG. RO Awosusi, fsi, fisn, Rtd., submitted that, "The role of arms bearing personnel is such a unique, tasking and duty-bound affair such that one must be diligent, resourceful, tactful, intelligent and calm. She further noted that it requires all sense of dedication, commitment and selflessness to execute".
While delivering the first lecture titled: "Violent Crime Response: A Task for Law Enforcement Arms Bearers", the guest speaker, CSP. Victor Olanrewaju kalejaiye, the Commander, SWAT, Nigerian Police, Magbon, Abeokuta, Ogun State, noted that the job of arms bearing personnel is such a multi-tasking one in the sense that one is not given the complete prerogative to act indiscriminately with the arms rather certain rules of engagement have to be taken before taking any action.
He went further to submit that an arms bearing personnel should always be up to date in the acts of arms bearing and the management of same while also seeing retraining as a necessary fuel for best professional practices.
Subsequently, other lectures also dwelt on various topics including: Ethics, Discipline, Inter-Agency Relationship by CSC. Lawrence Adesanya; Use of Firearms Versus Human Rights by SC Adebusike O. Adefala(Esq.,); the Principles of Marksmanship and the Role of Female Personnel in Security: A Panacea for School Insecurity by DCC AA Ajayi.
Other lectures include: the Role of Security Agencies in Stabilizing Agricultural Businesses by ACC MO Koleoso; the Lasting Solutions to Oil Theft: Equipping the Security Agencies for Effectiveness by ACC Waheed AbdulRaheem; Terrorism in Nigeria (Present and Future): The NSCDC Approach in Curbing Acts of Terrorism by ACC Opediti Opebiyi; Protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure: The Roles of NSCDC Arms Bearers by DCC Eyinnaya Achinivu; and Election Security: Roles of Security Agencies in Preventing Violence by DCC Kolawole Ajala.
The programme climaxed into dinner and award night where various personnel that have exhibited good characters and professional discipline were appropriately rewarded.
In the same night, the State Commandant also received two awards for his support and focus especially in moving the State Command forward in relation to activities across the State.
In his good will message, His Royal Highness (Alayeluwa) Oba Saheed Balogun, the Olu of Oke-Ogun, appreciated the organisers of the event and also tasked the NSCDC, Ogun State Command, to always try to do more.
According to him, "To whom much is given; much more is equally expected", he advised.
The State Commandant in his closing remarks thanked the convener of the event, CSC Owolabi Sulaiman Sodiq, for the initiative and professional touch in the organisation of the programme while also pledging his unalloyed support for subsequent editions in the State Command.
