The Egba Economic Summit, a socio-economic group in Ogun State, has appealed to Ogun State government to double the capacity of Lisabi power to generate more electricity for Abeokuta area.
According to the President, Egba Economic Summit, Shina Luwoye, said from Adatan to Eleweran down to FUNAAB they hardly get power for two hours adding that there are a lot of industries, MSMEs, schools along the corridor that need power.
Luwoye spoke at the weekend while addressing journalists during the 9th Annual General Meeting of the group with the theme: “The Future Is Now”.
According to him " there have been tremendous economics activities in Abeokuta, especially the MSMEs. How do you measure economic activities in any area? Is people selling electronics? When you see two or more electronic companies coming up, and you see five or more filling station coming up, you should know that there is increased economic activities in that area.
"You should notice that in Abeokuta in the last five years, there have been one mall brand, Justrite has come to Abeokuta and has multiplied in two places; apart from that, so many brands including Samsung, LG, Vanguard pharmacy have brought their brands to Abeokuta through some holders of their selling rights".
The President also lamented that there's only one 33kva serving the whole of Obafemi-Owode local government.
"In fact, it was 11kva line before Ojere that went through Owode Egba, Oba , then to Sagamu that served the whole of Mowe, Ibafo and Asise.
"Over the years, there have been other transmission lines that have developed but these are just a drop in the ocean of the requirements in that axis.
"Today, the requirement for power in Obafemi-Owode local government is more than the requirement in some state in Nigeria.
"We need state government to make it easy and in fact, invite investors, especially in view of the deregulated environment of the Nigeria power sector to deliberately invite power investors to that axis.
"We have a lot of industries in Obafemi-Owode local government and this game has to change because government have to look long term in the interest of our people and even in the interest of government itself that we should focus on power generation along that corridor".
