2023 Elections : Group urges Youths to abstain from thuggery, electoral violence

A Non-governmental group, Brodas Across Nigeria, West Indies chapter has urged youths to shun electoral violence.

Coordinator of the group, Mr. Sunday Ogundele stated this in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital calling on youths to shun electoral apathy and embrace peace in choosing right leaders at the forthcoming elections.

Ogundele said the group would work closely with relevant stakeholders for proper sensitization and awareness campaign towards a peaceful electoral process before, during and after elections.

“Let us all strive to build structures for peace and also give peace a chance. We must all work for peace at all times and the youths should avoid serving as thugs and hoodlums to politicians. There is nothing you gain at the end of the day than destruction and death.”

“As part of our plans and line up of activities on sensitising the youths, we hope to visit places like motor parks and where youths can be reached to sensitize them on the importance of having a peaceful election.”

According to him, the strength of this country is in the hands of its youths, therefore, onus is on them to make wise decision in electing credible leaders.

“I urge the youths of Ogun state to desist from all forms of social vices, drug abuse and substance consumption that may deteriorate their mental health. Rather, they should channel their energy to building a better life and future.”

“Brodas Across Nigeria, West Indies Chapter is extremely concerned on the preparations of INEC to conduct free, fair and credible elections and as we move close to the Feb. 25 Presidential and National Assembly, and the Gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly elections, respectively, we want to use this opportunity to call on INEC officials to remain apolitical, unbiased and neutral during the entire electioneering process.”

“We equally admonish all well-meaning Nigerians to stop all campaigns of calumnies predicated on ethnic bigotry and religious animosity capable of overheating the political atmosphere.”

Ogundele also demanded that all law-enforcement agents, security apparatus and institutional architecture should build common synergy and remain steadfast to ensure watertight security and management of the election.
