Shotayo stated this on Tuesday in Ota while playing host to the Executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council led by its Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju.
The transport union leader urged government and the public to see journalists as partners in progress, saying that media practitioners played a vital role in projecting the needs and wants of the people to government.
He called on government, corporate organizations and eminent individuals to assist in providing enabling environment for journalists and as well empowering them to thrive in their chosen profession.
"Journalism played a crucial role in informing the community, writing testimonials and holding people in power accountable at all times"
"It therefore remains the duty of journalists to assist government and the public to uncover the truth, provide a platform for diverse voices, and create a more informed and engaged society", Shotayo opined.
He emphasised that leaders are true reflections of the background from which they emerged, advising all leaders and political office holders in the country to always exhibit good conduct and be of good examples to their followers, as it would go a long way in reshaping the country positively.
While promising a working partnership with Ogun NUJ for more developmental projects, Mr Shotayo sought for more coverage and wider publicity of their activities by the Union.
The ROMO boss assured that his members would continue to operate according to the laid down rules and regulations of the land, stressing that necessary punitive measures would be meted out to any unruly and errant member.
Earlier, the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju commended the leadership qualities of the ROMO boss, saying that in barely three years of existence, the organisation has achieved a lot in terms of capacity building and earning strong public trust when compared with other transport Unions in the State.
Comrade Olanrewaju, who attributed the feat to the transport union leader's impeccable character and responsiveness, urged the organisation to do more for her members especially the riders who toil day and night to make both ends meet.
He then intimated the ROMO boss on plans and programmes that would be of great benefits to members of the organisation, assuring that such collaboration would bring about more development and cordial relationship.
