The President Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN),Bolaji Amisan popularly known as Mr Latin was reportedly on his way to attend the burial of his colleague, Murphy Afolabi, in Ikorodu, Lagos State. However, he was prevented from accessing the venue by a group of young men, referred to as "area boys."
According to reports, the youths claimed to be "omo adugbo" and demanded that Mr Latin settle them before they would allow him access to the burial ground.
The incident highlights the issue of youth gangs, popularly known as "area boys," in some parts of Nigeria who often extort money from people in exchange for access to public spaces.
Mr Latin, who is a renowned comic actor and film producer, is the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN). Despite his status, he was unable to gain access to the burial venue due to the activities of the "area boys."
The incident is a sad reflection of the insecurity and lawlessness that exist in some parts of Nigeria, and the need for the government to take urgent action to address the issue of youth gangs.
