WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY:Management Set to Make FUNAAB A Recycling Hub

...As Foundation Donates 10 (ten) Recyclin Bins to 'Varsity.

 The celebration of this year World Environment Day has received a boost in Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) with the donation of ten (10) Recycling Bins to the institution by FABE International Foundation (FIF), to strengthen the theme of this year, "Solution to Plastic Pollution" and to make our Campus clean.

The donation came even as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof.Olusola Babatunde Kehinde FGSN, FIHS received the Recycling Bins on behalf of the University, disclosing that Management will soon make FUNAAB a  recycling hub, in order to make the campus more clean, as well as serve as  source of income for interested students, among others.

Students from College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM) gathered at the Motion Ground of the University for an awareness campaign initiated by  FABE International Foundation Day to mark this year World Environment Day.

The Campaign which dissected this year theme, "Solution to Plastic Pollution" had in attendance the Vice-Chancellor, Prof.Olusola Babatunde Kehinde.

Donating the Recycling Bins, the Founder of FABE International Foundation, Mrs.Temitope Okunnu said it was borne out of the genuine intention of the Foundation to practically demonstrate comitment to the theme of this year World Environment Day and support the  campaign against plastic pollution in our environment.

Mrs.Okunnu enjoined the University to station the recycling bins at hostels, motor parks, eateries and other points where people often dump plastic and wastes in general,in order to keep the campus clean.

The Founder of FIF had earlier while addressing the students on the need to protect their environment and the planet, at large sensitized them on the need to guide against arbitrary dumping of waste.

She stressed the need to contribute their quota towards ensuring and sustaining safe and healthy environment by making sure plastic and wastes in general are neatly disposed into bins and not any open space.

Receiving and commissioning the Recycling Bins, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kehinde thanked the Founder of FIF for practicalising her commitment to healthy environment.

He assured that the University will put the recycling bins into good use, moreso that his Management team is looking forward to making FUNAAB a recycling hub.

The Vice-Chancellor put the Recycling Bin into use by symbolically dipping empty plastics into one of it.

Addressing the students earlier, Prof.Kehinde urged them to strictly  comply with the mantra of keeping our campus clean, as part of efforts to make FUNAAB a 21st Century University.

He described the theme of this year World Environment Day, "Solution to Plastic Pollution" as apt, charging students, members of staff and all stakeholders to imbibe the spirit of zero tolerance for plastic pollution, in order to make our environment safe.

It would be recalled that today's celebration of World Environment Day started on Campus with a collaboration between the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology,College of Environmental Resources Management(COLERM),FUNAAB and BUDDING Leaders Empowerment Initiative on awareness campaign on the theme, "Solution to Plastic Pollution" earlier posted on this platform.
