The free coaching class which is being sponsored by TOLA ADEBAJO FOUNDATION commenced on Monday and is expected to be concluded on Friday, September 1, 2023 with a prize giving ceremony; where outstanding students will rewarded across all classes.
Sharing her story, Mrs. Ologun, who is happily married to Mr. Samuel Ologun, a pastor with Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Iye, Oojo, Ijebu-Igbo, said she was not privileged to further her education beyond secondary school due to some financial reasons then.
"I attended Ogunsua Grammar School, Modekeke, Osun State. Certain challenges did not allow me to progress further in my academics, but i viewed it the will of God, so I have no regret whatsoever.
"I later learnt fashion designing, yet I was unable to do anything with it, but I have been living a modest life with my husband and children."
The mother of six children has taught in different schools in Lagos as an assistant teacher before she relocated with her husband to Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, in September 2019. Since then, she got employed by the PTA as an assistant teacher for primary 1 at St. James's Anglican Primary School, Atikori, Ijebu-Igbo.
According to her, "I desire to return to school, further my education, at least, to achieve a university degree by the grace of GOD. I would like to be trained as a professional teacher at the National Open University if financial help comes my way." She concluded.
Meanwhile, 548 secondary students have registered and are currently taking lessons at the free coaching. Participants were Junior Secondary School (JSS) 1 to Secondary School (SS) 3.
English, Mathematics and Yoruba language are key subjects peculiar to all the students across classes with strict compliance with government approved curriculum.
Other critical subjects being taught were National Value Education, Basic Science and Technology, Pre-vocational studies, as well as Business Studies for junior school.
Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Commerce, financial accounting, civic education, government, economics, and Literature-in-English were the subject selections for senior classes.
According to the coordinator, Tola Adebajo Foundation (TAF), free summer coaching, Mr. Oluyemi Olufemi, the turnout was impressive.
"On Monday, when we started, we had 157 students registered, and we thought that was it until another set of people surfaced on Tuesday. Now, we have above 500 already registered and attending classes. The overwhelming attendance has been both gratifying and humbling, and it reinforces my belief in the boundless possibilities that such opportunity offers."
Speaking on the rationale behind the gesture, the convener, TAF's free summer coaching, Prince Omotola Adebajo noted that it's an effort to enhance the knowledge of students during the ongoing long vacation.
"This was primarily designed to engage the students productively and keep them away from street hawking and other social vices.
Further more, the summer coaching is also to complement the efforts of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, on education, having declared free and compulsory education in public primary and secondary schools in the state." He said.
The educationist, Mr. Adebajo maintained that participants will be given free exercise books and other writing materials while certificates and prizes will be awarded to best students in every subject across all levels as well as overall best student during the grand finale and prize giving ceremony.
He added that he would continue to touch the lives of common citizens in the society at every given opportunity as well as continually contribute his quota to human development.
