2024NSF: Ogun Para Power lifters receive 17 specialised wheel chairs

In preparation towards next year's National Sports Festival, the Ogun State Para Power lifters have received donation of 17 specialised wheelchairs from the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints.

It will be recalled that the state has bided and won the hosting right for the sports fiesta in the State. The state had also inaugurated the Local Organising Committee led by Bukola Olopade. 

The State Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele received the equipments on behalf of the athletes from an arm of the church, Latter Day Charities, LDS in Abeokuta, the State capital. 

Speaking at the occasion, the LDS representative and Regional Manager, Welfare and Self-Reliance Services, Nigeria, Mr. Charles Adebayo, said the church embarked on the project, out of resolve to help humanity  as well as the athletes to perform to the best of their abilities. 

He added that the specialised wheelchairs was imported from abroad and it cost the church thousands of dollars.

Adebayo assured that the church will continue to support the State government in all sectors.


He said " The donations of the specialised wheelchairs is borne out of our service to humanity and to help the physically challenged athletes.

He said " These are not ordinary wheelchairs, it cost four times of normal wheelchairs. Without sounding inmodest, it can't be found in an open market in Nigeria and it is only used by physically challenged athletes.

It took us along time to bring it in and clear it from the customs. We are very happy to be doing this". 

The State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele who represented at the occasion by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Boundary Matters, Bukola Ahmed, appreciated the church for the donation.

Salako-Oyedele said the donations will give the athletes the willpower to perform better in various competitions and the National Sports Festival.


While responding on behalf of the athletes, the Chairman of  State Para Powerlifting Association, Deacon Gbolahan Eweje, who expressed his gratitude over the donation, insisting that the new equipments will spur the athletes to do well in forthcoming National Sports Festival.

His word: " We are extremely happy about this kind gesture to us. As you can see, we are all happy about this donation. The donations will help us to do well in the National Sports Festival ".
