Ex-Nigerian envoy to UK Affirms Ogun Political Integrity Against Financial Influence in Elections

Former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Isola, underscored the resilience of Ogun State's political landscape against monetary influences during elections.

Speaking at the World Radio Day celebration in Abeokuta, Isola emphasized that Ogun State sophistication prevents it from succumbing to financial inducements, citing historical trends where the highest spenders consistently lost elections in the state.

Isola, recognized with the Outstanding Nigerian Diplomat award by the Freelancer and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (Ogun State chapter), urged other states to emulate Ogun State political consciousness and enlightenment in fostering a politically aware populace.

He stressed the joint responsibility between leaders and the people in ensuring harmonious leadership transitions, advocating for peace as a catalyst for sustained development.

In a call for unity, Isola urged all stakeholders to become advocates of peace, noting that eight years is insufficient for comprehensive community or state development.

Highlighting the significance of radio, he emphasized its accessibility, especially in rural areas, as a powerful medium for disseminating messages across Nigeria.

Meanwhile, former Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Johnson Kokumo, addressed the prevailing insecurity across Nigeria during the same event.

Kokumo highlighted various security challenges including kidnapping, banditry, murder, piracy, cultism, and bombings, stressing that every region in Nigeria faces these threats.

As a guest speaker, DIG Kokumo urged communities to take responsibility for combating crime and called on radio presenters to leverage their platform in the fight against criminal activities.

He also urged Nigerians to collaborate in preventing indiscriminate travel abroad, commonly referred to as "Japa."

The event also honoured individuals such as Senator Adeola Olamilekan and acknowledged outstanding contributions in various fields, including broadcasting and diplomacy.
