The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide who read the Governor's correspondence to the Assembly during the plenary stated that, "on 6th February, 2023, the Honourable Justice Adebisi Femi-Segun was sworn in as the Acting President of the Ogun State Customary Court of Appeal, following the refirement of Honourable Justice M. A Ojo, the pioneer substantive President of the Court.
Consequent upon due recommendation by the National Judicial Council and in discharge of my constitutional powers in that regard, I hereby request the House to consider and confirm the appointment of Honourable Justice Adebisi Femi-Segun as the substantive President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Ogun State".
Consequently, the nominee has therefore been directed to submit 30 copies each of his credentials to the Assembly by tomorrow Friday, 8th of March, 2024, adding that he should appear for screening on Monday 11th of March, 2024 at noon.
Meanwhile, the Assembly had earlier played host to the women wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress ( NLC) in celebration of the International Women's Day, assuring that the legislative arm of Government would continue to support initiatives towards addressing gender based issues affecting women and other vulnerable groups.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elemide, who was represented by the Deputy Clerk of the Assembly, Barr. ( Mrs.) Funmi Adeyemi, said that women remained the bedrock of any society; hence being a gender sensitive arm of government, issues relating to their welfare and well-being would always be the priority of the Assembly.
Earlier in her address, the Chairman of the NLC Women Committee in the State, Comrade Omolara Olaiya stated that the visit was to sensitive the people on the importance of the International Women's Day which would be celebrated on Friday, 8th of March to address issues relating to women.
While eulogising the leadership of the Assembly for its continued support to women rights, she solicited more support for the various programmes to better their lots.
