Abiodun, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, retired AIG. Olusola Subair, made this known at the International Civil Defence Organisation Day 2024 celebration and the passing out parade of the newly recruited 2022 officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps held at the Command's Headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Friday.
The International Civil Defence Day is an annual celebration of the NSCDC usually held every March 1 of each year.
Abiodun stressed further that there is a need to adopt technology and explore innovative approaches to combat the rising insecurity across the country especially across its borders to other countries.
The governor also noted that his administration would continue to work with security agencies to ensure the security of lives and properties of the citizens of Ogun State.
He said, “There is an urgent need for all security agencies to re-strategise to combat the rising challenges of crime and criminalities to promote a crisis-free society.
“Together we will continue to explore innovative approaches to enhance security infrastructure, invest in human capital development and leverage technology to mitigate evolving threats by fostering a conducive environment of cooperation and dialogue.
We will undoubtedly unlock new opportunities for growth, prosperity and sustainable development, he added.
“I wish to reaffirm my unwavering commitment to advancing the support of the Ogun State Government to the NSCDC as we remain steadfast in our resolve to safeguard the wellbeing of our society and citizens, uphold the rule of law and build a safer, more prosperous future for future generations", he summarized.
The State Commandant, Idowu Ojelabi, called for more support and welfare packages for the fallen heroes in the Corps and improved welfare for retired officers and men of the Corps after their meritorious service to the country.
"In keeping with the role of encouraging community safety, the ICDO has, over the years, utilized the celebration of the World Civil Defence Day, which started in 1990, as an avenue to pay tribute to agencies involved in civil protection.
"Hence, every year on March 1, when World Civil Defence Day is being celebrated, the world focuses on honouring and celebrating those who work in civil protection and encourages more people to know about safety measures.
"In Nigeria, Civil Defence heroes don’t often get enough recognition that they deserve.
Interestingly, the theme for this year’s celebration seems to specially and specifically call for the celebration of our own heroes here in Nigeria".
While presenting the 60 newly recruited officers of the Corps in Ogun State to the governor, Ojelabi expressed confidence that the recruit will one day make the nation proud.
Military and paramilitary personnel present at the event included the Brigade Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Brigadier General Mohammed Tajudeen Aminu represented by Lt. Col. T. Gabriel; the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu represented by ACP. Babatunde Sodiimu; Controller FM Adebayo, and Commanding Officer, Federal Fire Service.
Also at the occasion are Immigration Comptroller in Ogun, O.O. Abosede represented by Deputy Comptroller of Immigration, R. Oyebanji; TRACE Corps Commander/Chief Executive Officer, Seeni Ogunyemi represented by Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi and former Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ade Abolurin, represented by Deputy Commandant of Corps Margaret Jaiyeola.
Others include: the Zonal Commander, Zone F Command Headquarters, ACG. Fabian Ejezie ably represented by Commandant Akeem Adeyinka; the So-Safe Corps Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo ably represented by Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuff; the Federal Controller, Town Planning, Federal Secretariat, Mr. Adeluola; His Royal Majesty Alayeluwa Oba (Professor) Saka Adelola Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom ably represented by Chief Olusola Adeoye, the Osupori of Owu Kingdom and the Alakaso Surulere, Alakaso Samuel Abiodun Adediran, amongst others.
