OBAFEMI OWODE LG BOSS REACTS ON THE REPORT ON OGUN COMMUNITY PROTESTS AGAINST ACTIVITIES OF ILLEGAL MINERS

The attention of the Obafemi Owode Local Government led by the Executive Chairman, Amb. Adesina 'Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, has drawn to a report by an online publication of New Telegraph, dated May 28th, 2024. on the protest of the residents of Ilate Etido Community, Mowe, condemning the activities of illegal miners which was said has affected the wellbeing of the people and economy of the community.

As a responsive government who have been proactive in providing and promoting the welfare of it's people, businesses and environment,wishes to inform the general public that before now, no official complaints to the office of the chairman has ever been made on the illegal mining or threat to life by any individual, group and association, which is not good enough, knowing that Ilate-Etido, Mowe is under the territory of our local government.

"I hereby want to assure our people as a government that necessary steps will be taken urgently to investigate,while illegal perpetrators shall be brought to book"

Furthermore, the council boss urged the community head, son's and daughters in the community to be calm and remain peaceful while going about their daily activities.

He therefore reiterates commitments in finding a lasting solution to the activities of land grabbers, illegal miners and excavation of laterite without due process and according to the report it has caused ecological defect resulting to erosion and other environmental hazards.

While the chairman has directed to invite all stakeholders in the matter to a meeting at the council secretariat, with an official visit to the community soon.
