Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State has reassured students and parents of bolstered security within the campus and surrounding community. Victor Akinpelumi, Head of Information, Protocol, and Public Relations, emphasized the university's commitment to student safety in a statement on Thursday.

Amid rising concerns over violent attacks on students living off-campus, Akinpelumi addressed the fears, affirming that AAUA is dedicated to ensuring a secure environment. "In light of recent security concerns in Akungba Akoko, the management wishes to assure students and parents that we are fully committed to their safety, both on campus and in host communities," he stated.

To combat these security issues, AAUA has increased security presence to deter criminal activities and apprehend suspects. Collaborating closely with the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies, the university is developing coordinated responses to these challenges. "Regular meetings and dialogues are being held to ensure all parties are aligned in protecting our students," Akinpelumi added.

Efforts to enhance security include fostering stronger relationships with community leaders and stakeholders, improving surveillance, lighting, and conducting regular patrols. Additionally, the university is actively engaging with the student body and paramilitary organizations to promote safety awareness. "Students are encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and use available safety resources," he noted.

The university's spokesperson appreciated the cooperation of students and parents, highlighting their support as vital in maintaining a safe community. He also urged anyone with useful information on security to contact the University’s Security Unit or the Public Relations Unit.

Previously, Oyindamola Boladale, President of the Students’ Union Government, had written to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, calling for enhanced security measures. Boladale highlighted the recent armed robbery incidents that have instilled fear among students and their families.

In conclusion, Akinpelumi reassured that student safety is AAUA's top priority, with ongoing efforts to create a secure environment for students to focus on their studies without fear.
