The Tesla and SpaceX CEO reaffirmed his willingness to fight the Meta CEO. "I'll fight Zuckerberg any place, any time, any rules," Musk declared on Wednesday.
The initial challenge was issued last year when Meta announced plans to develop their own competitor to Musk's X platform. Despite the challenge, no match has occurred yet.
During a visit to Washington, D.C., where Musk attended Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress, he reiterated his readiness for the bout. "I'll fight Zuckerberg any place, any time, any rules," he repeated to reporters.
Kelly Phares tweeted another Musk quote from his Capitol Hill visit: "Musk said he'd fight Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg any place, any time, any rules."
In response, a Meta representative referred Business Insider to a Threads post by Zuckerberg. "Are we really doing this again?" Zuckerberg wrote.
The talk of a Musk-Zuckerberg fight dates back to June 2023, sparked by Musk's challenge amid rumors that Meta was developing a rival to X. Zuckerberg later launched the text-based social media platform, Threads, in July. Despite the hype, the fight never happened.
"I've been ready to fight since the day Elon challenged me. If he ever agrees on an actual date, you'll hear it from me," Zuckerberg posted on Threads on August 11. "Until then, please assume anything he says has not been agreed on."
Nevertheless, Musk occasionally revisits the idea of a cage match. When Zuckerberg celebrated his 40th birthday in May, Musk reiterated his willingness to fight on X. "If only Zuckerberg were as tough (sigh). I've offered to fight him any place, any time, any rules, but all I hear is crickets," Musk wrote in response to a satirical news story about a face-off between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
Despite their feud, Musk and Zuckerberg share similar views on AI. Both have discussed the importance of developing AI products to challenge the dominance of major players like OpenAI and Microsoft.
Musk even complimented Zuckerberg on Tuesday when Meta released its latest AI model, Llama 3.1. The open-source model, which Meta claims can outperform OpenAI's GPT-4, is available for public use for free. "It is impressive and Zuck does deserve credit for open-sourcing," Musk acknowledged in an X post.
Representatives for Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.
