The ongoing discussions between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been rescheduled for September 6, 2024. This decision was announced by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, following a meeting with ASUU leadership on Wednesday at the Federal Ministry of Education.
The meeting is a continuation of efforts to address issues raised by ASUU, particularly concerns over the Federal Government's failure to uphold the 2009 renegotiated agreement. ASUU had earlier warned of a potential nationwide strike following resolutions made during their national executive council meeting at the University of Ibadan on August 19, 2024.
ASUU's demands include better welfare for lecturers, increased funding for public universities, and a halt to the rapid establishment of new universities across the country.
