Suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on two farms near the Sabon-Wuse community in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State in the early hours of Sunday, August 11, 2024.
According to reports, the assailants struck at around 1:00 AM, targeting two farmhouses on the outskirts of the community. During the attack, the manager of one farm was tragically killed, while three staff members working at the second farm were abducted.
The Commander of the local vigilante group, Hussaini Abubakar, confirmed the incident, stating that the bandits initially abducted the three individuals and were attempting to flee when they encountered resistance.
"The manager was among those who tried to confront the gunmen, but sadly, he was shot and killed in the process," Abubakar said.
Despite the violence, the bandits did not rustle any cattle from the farms. Abubakar added that the attack occurred at approximately 2:00 AM, and although the vigilante team and police responded swiftly arriving about 10 minutes later the gunmen had already escaped with the abducted victims.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, provided further details on the incident. He clarified that two people were abducted during the attack and that efforts are underway to ensure their safe return.
“On August 11, 2024, at about 1:00 AM, we received information that armed men attacked a residence in Angwan-Aso, near Sabon-Wuse,” SP Abiodun stated. “The police patrol team from the Sabon-Wuse Division, led by the DPO, responded promptly, but the assailants had already fled with the victims.”
SP Abiodun also mentioned that during the attack, the gunmen encountered a security guard at a nearby poultry farm. The guard sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The police are actively working to rescue the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
