The Kano State Police Command has arrested 41 suspects in a series of raids targeting criminal hideouts across the state. The operation led to the recovery of dangerous weapons and a significant quantity of intoxicating drugs.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He highlighted that these actions were part of the Command's intensified efforts to combat crime under the directives of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
"In line with the Inspector-General's mandate for continuous visibility patrols and intelligence-led policing, the Kano State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against crime in the state," Kiyawa stated.
He further explained that the raids targeted known criminal hotspots and areas identified through public complaints within Kano Metropolis. As a result, 41 suspects were apprehended, and various dangerous weapons and drugs were confiscated. Investigations are currently ongoing.
"This achievement underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Kano's residents. Crime rates are steadily declining, thanks to the support and cooperation of law-abiding citizens," Kiyawa added.
CP Salman Dogo Garba assured the public of the Command's unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property in Kano. He also urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and accurate information to help eliminate criminal elements from the state.
