Man Arrested for Allegedly Kidnapping Six-Year-Old Boy in Katsina-OXYGIST

The Katsina State Police have arrested a 21-year-old man, Halilu Yusuf, on suspicion of kidnapping a six-year-old boy. The arrest was confirmed by the police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, during a press briefing on Wednesday.

According to Aliyu, the suspect was apprehended on August 17 around 2 p.m., following credible intelligence that linked him to the abduction. Yusuf, a resident of Gezawa near Shinkafi village, allegedly kidnapped the child, who is the son of his mentor, from Kofar-Sauri quarters and demanded a ransom of N2 million.

The suspect reportedly kept the boy in his room overnight before moving him to another location, unaware that the police were tracking his movements. The police spokesperson explained that Yusuf made an anonymous call to the boy’s father, informing him of the abduction and demanding the ransom.

Upon receiving the report, a team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of GRA, Katsina, swiftly mobilized and successfully traced the suspect. Yusuf was arrested, and the young boy was rescued unharmed.

During the investigation, Yusuf confessed to the crime. The police have stated that he will be charged to court once the investigation is completed.
