Trabzonspor's efforts to bring Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu back to Turkey have gained momentum, as the club renews its negotiations with Southampton for a permanent transfer.
Despite earlier setbacks, the Turkish Super Lig giants remain determined to secure the services of the 29-year-old forward, who impressed during his loan spell last season. Onuachu became a top priority for Trabzonspor after netting 17 goals and providing four assists, solidifying his status as a key target, even with other options like former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst in consideration.
Southampton has stood firm on their €10 million valuation of Onuachu, whom they signed from Racing Genk for €18 million just last year. Trabzonspor’s initial offer of €7 million plus €2 million in add-ons was rejected, pushing the club to explore new avenues to close the deal.
In a fresh bid to bring Onuachu back, Trabzonspor has reportedly proposed a player-plus-cash deal, offering €7 million along with two players—Umut Bozok and Greek forward Taxiarchis Fountas—in exchange for the towering striker. This latest offer marks the highest transfer bid in Trabzonspor's history, highlighting their commitment to landing the Nigerian star.
The negotiations are further complicated by the involvement of Southampton’s CEO, Rasmus Ankersen, who also chairs Göztepe, another Turkish club. Trabzonspor has reportedly included Göztepe in the discussions, offering the two players as part of a broader deal.
As of now, Southampton has yet to respond to the latest offer, but Trabzonspor’s determination suggests they are far from giving up on their pursuit of Onuachu, who is under contract with the Saints until June 2026.
