A tenant, Kareem Mojeed, has been remanded in a correctional facility by the Iyaganku Family Court in Ibadan for allegedly defiling his landlord’s 7-year-old daughter.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, presided over the case on Wednesday. She did not take Mojeed’s plea and ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further advice. The case has been adjourned until October 14, pending the DPP's recommendations.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, the incident occurred on July 21 at 5:00 p.m. in the Ebedi area of Ibadan. Mojeed is accused of luring the young girl into his room and committing the crime.
The charge against him violates Section 34 of the Oyo State Child’s Rights Law, 2006, which protects children from abuse and exploitation.
