The trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is set to continue today, Tuesday, September 24, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The Biafra secessionist leader has been facing charges related to terrorism since his dramatic rearrest and repatriation from Kenya to Nigeria in 2021.
Kanu, who has long been a vocal advocate for the secession of the southeastern region of Nigeria, remains a central figure in the push for Biafra’s independence. His ongoing trial is closely watched both in Nigeria and by international observers, as it touches on sensitive issues of ethnic and regional tensions within the country.
The hearing, which was scheduled for 10 AM today, marks another crucial step in the protracted legal battle between the Nigerian government and Kanu. His legal team, led by Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the court proceedings in a public notice, saying, “As scheduled, the hearing of MAZI NNAMDI KANU’s case will hold today at 10 AM. The venue remains the Federal High Court, Abuja, and #MNK will be in attendance. This hearing is of great significance.”
