Oxlade Reveals Wande Coal as the Inspiration Behind His Music Journey-OXYGIST

Nigerian music sensation Ikuforiji Olaitan, better known as Oxlade, has credited Afrobeat legend Wande Coal as the driving force behind his rise in the music industry. In a recent interview, Oxlade opened up about how Wande Coal’s influence shaped his career, sparking his passion for singing.

"I don't think I've ever publicly said this before, but Wande is the reason I make music, and people don’t even know," Oxlade confessed. He went on to explain that Wande Coal’s presence in an era when vocalists were becoming scarce gave singers like him the confidence to pursue their craft. "Wande is the reason singers still have the guts to sing. He came at a time when vocalists were fading out, but he gave us a voice and an identity, making us believe in ourselves. So, having him on this album is a dream come true."

Oxlade also shared the exciting story behind his collaboration with Wande Coal on the track Asunasa (Hold Your Waist). He revealed that after recording the song in Ghana, he felt something was missing, which led to a conversation with Wande Coal. The legendary singer agreed to jump on the track, adding his signature touch to the record.

"That’s the fastest song I’ve ever made. I recorded it in Ghana, and I just felt like something was missing. After a chat with Wande, I pitched the idea to him, and he decided to hop on the song. It's one of my favorite tracks, and I’m sure the world will connect with it."
