Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a violent attack on Mafa village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, causing widespread destruction. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, September 1, saw the assailants looting shops and homes before setting them ablaze.
According to reports, the attack took place around 4 PM when over 50 motorcycles carrying heavily armed men, wielding rifles and RPGs, stormed the village. The scale of the assault left the community in shock and fear.
DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the attack on Monday, stating that the exact number of casualties is still unknown. Local residents, Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim, reported the tragic event to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station, revealing that many lives were lost, though the exact figures have yet to be confirmed.
Adding to the terror, the gunmen distributed flyers with Arabic inscriptions, heightening the fear among the villagers.
In a related incident, at least three students from Faudiya School in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State were reported dead following an attack by armed assailants on Friday.
