In a show of respect for the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to wear black bands for a seven-day mourning period. The tribute is a mark of gratitude for Lagbaja’s bravery, dedication, and passion in the fight against violent crime and insurgency in Nigeria.
This directive, issued in an official statement by Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, underscores the profound impact of Lagbaja’s leadership on Nigeria’s security forces.
“Following the passing of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the IGP has ordered all officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force to wear black bands for seven days in his honor,” Adejobi’s statement reads. “This is a tribute to a leader who showed remarkable gallantry and an unyielding dedication to protecting Nigeria from violent crime. He deserves our utmost respect and remembrance.”
President Bola Tinubu also mourned Lagbaja’s passing, confirming the news through a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga. Lagbaja passed away at 56 in Lagos on Tuesday evening after a brief illness.
