In a closed-door meeting held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo received high praise from Richard Mills, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, who hailed him as a “repository of knowledge” on Nigerian affairs. The private one-hour discussion took place on Thursday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and was described by Mills as insightful and deeply valuable.
Ambassador Mills commended the former leader for his profound grasp of Nigeria’s history and current landscape, noting that the library itself, filled with historical significance, reflects the aspirations many Nigerians hold for a brighter future. "It’s a fascinating place,” Mills remarked, “one that captures a pivotal moment of optimism in Nigeria. I think we all hope to see that spirit revived.”
According to a statement from Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, the ambassador also toured the library and its various exhibits. Mills described his conversation with Obasanjo as “open and frank,” underscoring the value the United States places on its relationship with the former president.
“We always gain insights from a visit with former President Obasanjo. He is a true friend to the United States,” Mills affirmed.
