This was highlighted during a dialogue meeting with representatives from Abule Eriti in Obafemi Owode Local Government and Gidimo in Ewekoro Local Government.
The dialogue session, held at Livestock department, vetinary complex, ministry of Agriculture, Itaeko, Abeokuta on Tuesday under the supervision of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, Hadi Sani, brought together key stakeholders, including Pastor Olufemi, Mr. Abdulhameed, and Prince Segun Adesgun, leaders of the Southwest Farmers Association, as well as Alhaji Kabir Labar, the Southwest Chairman of Miyetti Allah.
During the meeting, community representatives presented their challenges and concerns, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to mitigate conflicts arising from cattle grazing on farmlands.
Hadi Sani commended the participants for their willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and assured them of the government’s support in implementing resolutions that ensure lasting peace.
“The Ogun State government remains fully committed to resolve conflicts and fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders. As we approach the dry season, it is crucial to strengthen our collective efforts to maintain harmony across all settlements."
He emphasized that the security and safety of all communities in Ogun State are shared responsibilities and urged all stakeholders to remain steadfast in their commitment to peace.
The SSA highlighted the importance of cooperation between the government, community leaders, and relevant associations such as Miyetti Allah and the Southwest Farmers Association in addressing disputes and promoting mutual respect among parties.
Hadi added that this initiative is part of the Ogun State government’s broader efforts to strengthen inter-ethnic relations, enhance community security, and support agricultural productivity by creating an environment of mutual trust and cooperation.
