Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is preparing to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking during the 13th memorial anniversary of her late husband, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, in Owerri on Tuesday, Ambassador Ojukwu highlighted the importance of Kanu's release in restoring peace and order in the Southeast.
“President Tinubu understands the critical role Kanu’s release will play in exposing the criminal elements hiding behind IPOB to wreak havoc in the region. This step is essential to differentiating genuine freedom fighters from those causing violence,” she remarked.
Ojukwu further pledged her commitment to advocating for Kanu’s freedom, emphasizing that it aligns with efforts to reclaim the Southeast from rising insecurity.
She also condemned the violent “sit-at-home” orders that have disrupted lives and economic activities, stating that they contradict the principles of self-determination.
“Ndigbo are known for their enterprise and unity. We must reclaim our heritage and promote the ideals championed by Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu,” she said.
Kanu has been in custody since 2021 following his repatriation from Kenya, a situation that has continued to draw calls for resolution.
