The Kano Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has taken custody of 10 individuals rescued from an attempted human trafficking operation.
The Zonal Commander, Abdullahi Babale, confirmed the development on Thursday, December 12, 2024, while receiving the victims from the Kano State Police Command. The rescue operation took place on December 7, at around 2:40 p.m., in a house located in Rijiyar Lemu Quarters, Kano. It was led by CSP Bala Shuaibu and his team of officers.
The rescued group consists of six women and four men, aged between 22 and 42. According to Babale, they were en route to Libya, where they were intended for labor exploitation. “The victims hail from Delta, Edo, Osun, Ogun, and Lagos States,” Babale disclosed.
Commending the Kano State Police Commissioner, Salman Dogo-Garba, for his unwavering support in the operation, Babale emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in combating human trafficking.
“These individuals will receive counseling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families,” Babale said, urging parents to remain vigilant and protect their children from falling prey to traffickers luring them with false promises of greener pastures abroad.
He also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities related to human trafficking within their communities, stressing the role of collective action in eradicating this menace.
