The 2nd National Deaf Table Tennis Championship begins today at the Knock-Up Hall of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) within the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
In a joint statement, the President of the Deaf Supporters Development Initiative (DSDI), Mr. Afolabi Dahunsi, and the Chairman, Mr. Amuda Yusuf Ibrahim, confirmed the event’s commencement.
Building on the success of the recent West Africa Deaf Football and Athletics Championship, also hosted in Lagos under Ibrahim’s leadership, this tournament underscores the power of sports to unify and inspire.
The championship coincides with the 2024 International Day for Persons with Disabilities, observed globally on December 3. It seeks to spotlight the leadership abilities of deaf individuals and showcase their potential to excel through sports.
Athletes from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones are set to compete in this two-day event. Organized in collaboration with the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation (NDSF) and the NTTF, the tournament benefits from robust technical support to ensure a high standard of competition.
Like its inaugural edition in 2023, the championship promises to reward winners with cash prizes, trophies, and certificates, celebrating their achievements and encouraging further participation in sports.
