In a bid to promote harmonious coexistence and strengthen security across the state, the Ogun State Government on Wednesday has intensified its peacebuilding initiatives, successfully resolving several conflicts within Ewekoro and Obafemi Owode Local Government Areas.
Led by the Special Adviser on Security, AIG Olusola Zubair (Rtd.), and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, Hadi Sani, the peacebuilding team engaged with host communities and herders’ settlements in two separate locations.
The engagements centered on fostering peaceful coexistence and enforcing operational guidelines aimed at enhancing human and food security in the state.
The meetings brought together key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, community representatives, and leaders of herder and farmer associations.
Among those present were the Kabiesi of Waasimi, the Chairman of the Southwest Farmers Association, the Chairman of Miyetiallah Southwest, as well as several Baales and representatives of farmers’ groups.
During the engagements, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the peaceful coexistence agreement.
As Ogun State approaches the dry season , a period often marked by heightened tensions between farmers and herders , stakeholders pledged their full cooperation with the state government’s measures.
The Special Adviser on Security, AIG Olusola Zubair (Rtd.), assured the communities that the government would not tolerate any breach of the agreed modalities of operation.
He stressed that violators would face strict enforcement measures adding that this stance aligned with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration’s goal of creating an enabling environment for the agricultural sector to thrive and contribute to food security and economic growth.
Speaking on the outcome of the engagements, Hadi Sani, SSA on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, emphasized that peace is a shared responsibility.
“The peace of our community is our collective responsibility,” he stated, while encouraging all parties to continue working together for the benefit of the state.
