Monalisa Osayi, the woman seen in a viral video allegedly assaulting an FRSC officer, has been remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison after being arraigned in court.
The incident occurred on December 7, 2024, during a routine patrol by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS2.19 Lekki Unit Command. The officer, identified as MA-II Habeeb Ndaman Sayidi, was reportedly carrying out his lawful duties when the confrontation erupted. While the exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, the video quickly gained traction on social media.
After an intensive week-long effort to ensure her accountability, Osayi was arrested on Sunday, December 15, 2024, around 4:05 PM. She was initially granted bail by the Ajah Divisional Police Headquarters but was later detained through strategic efforts led by the Unit Commander.
On Monday, December 16, 2024, Osayi appeared before Court 3 of the Eti-Osa Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate Oyaniyi FP. She pleaded not guilty to two charges: Assault,Breach of public peace for allegedly inciting the community against the FRSC patrol team.
The court imposed strict bail conditions, including a payment of ₦100,000 and the provision of two family-member sureties with valid tax clearance certificates. Until these conditions are met, Osayi will remain in custody at Kirikiri Maximum Prison.
The case has been adjourned to January 8, 2025, for further hearing.
