Delta Police Arrest Young Couple Over Staged Kidnapping to Extort ₦2 Million-OXYGIST

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a young couple, identified as Princess and Prince, for allegedly faking a kidnapping to extort ₦2,000,000 from the girl’s family.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Wednesday. According to the statement, the incident occurred on December 30, 2024, when Princess devised a plan with her boyfriend to stage her abduction.

Princess reportedly visited Prince’s house and convinced him to contact her parents, posing as her kidnapper. Prince then called her family, claiming she had been abducted and demanding ₦2 million for her “release.”

SP Edafe detailed the incident, stating:

“The two suspects, Princess and Prince, are in a relationship. On December 30, 2024, the girl went to her boyfriend’s house and instructed him to call her parents, claiming she had been kidnapped. He followed her instructions and demanded ₦2,000,000 as ransom.

“The mother reported the supposed kidnapping to the police, and we launched an investigation. It didn’t take long before the truth was uncovered, leaving the girl’s mother in shock. It’s truly disheartening to see what some children put their parents through these days.”

The police have assured the public that the suspects will face the full weight of the law as investigations continue. This incident highlights the growing concern over such deceptive schemes and the emotional toll they take on families.
