Social media critic and influencer VeryDarkMan has demanded the arrest of Raheem Okoya, son of billionaire Rasaq Okoya, following allegations of naira abuse. He insists that the law should be applied equally, regardless of social or economic status.
In a six-minute video shared on his Instagram page on Friday, VeryDarkMan responded to a viral clip showing Raheem mishandling the naira in the presence of a police officer. While the police officer involved has been arrested, Raheem has faced no legal action.
The social media critic expressed frustration at this apparent disparity, stressing that accountability should not be reserved for certain groups. Although Raheem has publicly apologised for his actions, VeryDarkMan argued that ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse.
Drawing on his own experience, he recounted how he was arrested for wearing a police uniform despite apologising for the act. He used this incident to illustrate that apologies alone cannot exempt anyone from facing the law.
He also referenced high-profile cases involving Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest, who were penalised for similar offences, asserting, “The law in Nigeria is for everyone, whether you’re rich or poor.”
Describing the viral incident, VeryDarkMan said, “Yesterday, a video went viral showing Raheem Okoya, the son of a billionaire, bribing a police officer. Afterward, they began mutilating the naira.” He further alleged that the officer’s actions were influenced by financial inducement.
Criticising the apparent leniency shown to Raheem, he stated, “There’s no separate law for the rich. If the law applies to the poor, it should also apply to the wealthy.”
In his Instagram post caption, he directly addressed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), demanding action. He wrote:
“After this post, I will be waiting to see @officialefcc’s reaction to this. There’s no ignorance in law. The law is not only for the poor. The son of that Lagos billionaire must go to court. Bobrisky went, Cubana Chief Priest went in for naira mutilation, so he has to go too.
“That apology to the police doesn’t stand because I once apologised to the @nigeriapoliceforce, and the next day, I was detained at SARS and taken to court. That Okoya son no get two head… the law no be only for poor man. I WILL BE WATCHING IF WE TRULY GET LAW FOR NIGERIA.”
