President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC) at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Friday, January 24. The delegation was led by Dr. Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, Chairman of the GAC.
The presidency announced the visit in a brief statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, alongside photos from the meeting. The post read:
“President Bola Tinubu receives Dr. Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, Chairman of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and his delegation in Abuja.”
The GAC, regarded as the highest political decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has recently played a significant role in endorsing leadership changes within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The Council backed the decision by 32 lawmakers to impeach former Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office. Following the impeachment, Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda (representing Apapa 1) was elected as the new Speaker.
According to reports from Western Post, the GAC supported the lawmakers' move to remove Obasa and endorsed the leadership transition to Meranda.
Speaking after a meeting with the GAC, Meranda expressed gratitude for the Council's blessings on the leadership change. She stated that the endorsement provided much-needed support for the assembly’s decision.
Before her elevation to Speaker, Meranda served as the assembly’s Chief Whip and later as Deputy Speaker.
