Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged the difficulties of his role, admitting that his job at Old Trafford is “very hard.”
Amorim made this admission following United’s 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday. The loss leaves the Red Devils struggling in 15th place, with only four wins from 14 league matches under his leadership.
While hopes remain alive in the FA Cup and Europa League, a growing injury crisis and persistent poor form since his arrival in November have only added to the challenges he faces.
Speaking to reporters, the Portuguese coach admitted the scale of the task at hand:
"What you see and discuss every week, I see as well," Amorim said. "I have a lot of problems. My job here is really difficult, but I stick to my beliefs."
United’s performance at Tottenham was significantly impacted by the absence of key players, with Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, Christian Eriksen, Manuel Ugarte, and Amad Diallo all unavailable. Diallo, in particular, is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering an injury in training.
Reflecting on the game, Amorim pointed out that United’s inability to convert chances proved costly.
"In the end, they scored, and we didn’t. That was the big difference in the game. We created a lot of chances, but we couldn’t finish them off," he told Sky Sports.
He also highlighted the difficulties of adjusting tactics due to injuries:
"You start with a plan, but then you lose key players day after day, and it forces you to change your approach. I couldn’t play the same way with Joshua [Zirkzee] as I would with Amad [Diallo]."
Amorim also explained the tactical dilemmas faced with Bruno Fernandes:
"Sometimes you want Bruno to be involved in the build-up because of his ability to switch play, but then you also need him to press. It’s really hard when you constantly have to adjust to missing players."
As United battles to turn their season around, Amorim remains under pressure to find solutions amid mounting difficulties.
