Tragedy struck in Abia State as gunmen shot and killed Precious Chidozie James, a recent graduate of Petrochemical Engineering from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
Chidozie, who was preparing for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, lost his life while accompanying his elder brother, Enyeribe James, on a night patrol. The attack occurred in Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government Area, at around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Enyeribe, who heads the Ukwa East/Ukwa West anti-bunkering task force of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), managed to escape into the bush when unknown gunmen ambushed them, opening fire on their vehicle.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants emerged from the bush and shot indiscriminately, killing Chidozie on the spot. His brother, however, narrowly escaped.
The police, led by DSP Ibrahim from the Obehie Police Station, arrived at the scene at approximately 9:35 a.m. and evacuated the body.
Authorities have yet to release further details on the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
