Lagos Assembly Lawmakers Reject Obasa, Stand Firm on Meranda as Speaker-OXYGIST

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have firmly rejected Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, insisting that Mojisola Meranda remains the rightful leader of the assembly.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, 36 lawmakers dismissed Obasa’s claim that he still holds the position, reaffirming their support for Meranda.

Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security, and Strategy, Steven Ogundipe, emphasized that the lawmakers are committed to upholding Obasa’s removal and urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Lagos to intervene in the ongoing crisis.

“We were approached by our leaders and told to remain calm, but we are surprised by today’s developments. We have chosen to be law-abiding, and we expect the same level of respect. Our mandate should be acknowledged, and the leadership should engage with us properly, not through this display of power,” Ogundipe stated.

He further stressed that the lawmakers would not resort to unlawful actions but expect their concerns to be addressed with fairness and respect.

“We are not happy. We have followed due process and remained loyal to the state, yet we are being disregarded. I urge our party leadership to step in because we cannot continue like this,” he added.

The crisis within the Lagos Assembly continues to unfold, with tensions rising over the battle for leadership.
