Engr. Salako-Oyedele, stated this at the year 2025 Management Retreat with the theme, ‘’Streamlining Policy Implementation Objective and Goals in Environmental Governance" organised by the Ministry of Environment, in Abeokuta.
She said the retreat was a call to greater commitment and innovation, saying that they should all critically assess the progress and identify the areas of improvement, development and innovative solution towards engaging environmental challenges as well as strengthening Inter- Agency Collaboration for more effective policy implementation, so as to ensure that the environmental policies align with national and global sustainability goals.
The Deputy Governor noted that, the retreat was a crucial step towards shaping the future of the environmental governance in the State, adding that the management should seize the opportunity to reaffirm commitment to excellence, accountability and sustainability in environmental management.
The Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, called on the management and staff of the Ministry to ensure continuous environmental safety and social services to the people of the State, explaining that Governor Dapo Abiodun had given more to the State civil Service and much was expected from us in return.
The HoS in his lecture titled "PSR Talk: Relevance of PSR to Environmental Governance’’, he urged the civil servants to ensure good mastery of the Public Service Rules that guides the service so as not to err unnecessarily but have a smooth sailing in the State service.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, admonished the management of the Ministry to maintain good efforts towards effectiveness and efficiency, saying this had been the guide for OGEPA recording 75 percent success for industries and facilities within the State.
Oresanya explained that, about 110 percent revenue was generated in the year 2004 compared to 84 percent achievement recorded in year 2023 for OGEPA, stressing that the Ministry and its sister Agencies were resolute and determined to surpass the achievements in year 2025.
He promised that the Ministry would maintain sustainable initiatives, prevent and mitigate Environmental pollution through periodical monitoring throughout the year.
In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Sam Oyeleye, said the Ministry would ensure continuous environmental safety in handling and disposing hazardous materials, saying the Ministry and its Agency would collaborate with GIZ, NESRIEA, UNIDO and many more partners towards Streamlining the Policy Implementation Goals in Environmental Governance.
In their Goodwill messages, the Special Advisers to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, Hon. Faruk Akintunde; the Special Adviser to the Governor, OGWAMA, Hon. Abayomi Hunye and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Flood and Erosion Control, Prince Femi Akinwunmi, appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for his unrelenting effort at ensuring that, Ogun State maintain the lead as the gateway State, adding that the Ministry and its sister Agencies in partnership with Wecyclers Organisation were ready to go into recycling, which create more jobs as well as increase the revenue base of the State.
In his lecture, the Dean of Social Faculty, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Professor Dele Odunlami, speaking on the theme of the Retreat, "Streamlining Policy Implementation Objective and Goals in Environmental Governance" said that the key responsibility of the Ministry and its sister Agencies included, Policy Formation and Enforcement, Waste Management and Ecological Control, Environmental Protection and Disaster Response, among others.
He added that some of the key Environmental challenges in Ogun State included, climate change, pollution, waste management, deforestation, poor sanitation, flooding among others, saying there was need for establishment of Rapid Response Squad and collaboration with other relevant Agencies in order to prevent measures for disaster.
