A 50-year-old businessman, Nuru Isa, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly flogging his wife, Wasila Abdullahi, to death following a dispute over Ramadan meal preparations.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, CSP Ahmed Wakil, stated that Isa is currently in police custody as investigations are underway.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred over the weekend in Fadaman Mada, Bauchi metropolis, when an argument broke out between the couple regarding the handling of food ingredients and fruits meant for breaking the Ramadan fast. The dispute escalated into violence, during which Isa allegedly used a cane to repeatedly strike his wife.
The assault reportedly caused Wasila to collapse and lose consciousness. She was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where a doctor later confirmed her death.
CSP Wakil further disclosed that the deceased’s body has been deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy, and the cane used in the assault has been recovered as evidence. The police have launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
