Tragedy struck in Gawu, a community in the Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as a 42-year-old housewife, Maman Zainab, collapsed and passed away while attending a Ramadan tafsir session at a local mosque.

A resident, Ismail Bala, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Thursday, March 13, 2025, stating that it occurred on Tuesday at approximately 11:23 a.m. Maman Zainab had reportedly left home in good health, accompanied by three of her neighbors, to participate in the tafsir, a religious gathering held during Ramadan.

According to Bala, the deceased had whispered to one of her neighbors during the session, complaining of dizziness and a severe headache. She attempted to stand up and leave but suddenly collapsed.

Fellow worshippers immediately rushed her to a hospital in Gawu Babangida, but sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“The woman was attending the tafsir just opposite her house when she suddenly collapsed. We took her to the hospital, but unfortunately, she passed away before anything could be done,” Bala recounted.

A doctor at the hospital later attributed her death to complications from high blood pressure.

Following Islamic traditions, her remains were laid to rest shortly after the tragic incident.
