Barcelona has bid a heartfelt farewell to their late team doctor, Carles Miñarro Garcia, who tragically passed away in his sleep on Saturday afternoon.
The funeral took place on Tuesday at a cemetery in the Port Olimpic area of Barcelona, with a strong Blaugrana presence paying their last respects. Among those in attendance were club president Joan Laporta, Director of Football Deco, Vice-President Rafa Yuste, and assistant Bojan Krkic. Barcelona captain Marc-André ter Stegen also joined the delegation to honor Miñarro’s legacy.
A full contingent from Espanyol was also present, demonstrating the widespread respect and impact Miñarro had in Spanish football.
His sudden passing led to the postponement of Barcelona’s La Liga fixture against Osasuna. However, the team will return to action on Tuesday evening in their Champions League Round of 16 clash against Benfica. In tribute, the players will wear black armbands, and UEFA has approved a minute of silence before kickoff.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick acknowledged the emotional toll of the loss but emphasized the squad’s resolve to secure victory in Miñarro’s honor.
"We’ve lost an important member of our family, and it has been a difficult time for everyone at the club," Flick said. "But we will channel our emotions into the game and fight for a win to honor his memory."
