Ogun Councillor Tackles Darkness, Installs Solar-Powered Streetlights in Ward 14, Abeokuta North LG

In a significant move to improve security and enhance the quality of life for residents, Hon. Olabiyi Victor Olusola, the Councillor representing Ward 14 in Abeokuta North Local Government, has facilitated the installation of solar-powered streetlights in the ward.

 The installation took place on Tuesday as part of a broader initiative to illuminate all wards in the local government.

The project is an initiative of the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo. Tagged “Lighting Up Abeokuta North Local Government Ward After Ward,” the initiative aimed to provide sustainable and uninterrupted street lighting across all communities within the local government area.

Speaking on the installation, Hon. Olabiyi Victor Olusola expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman for prioritizing development projects that directly impact the lives of the people. 

He emphasized that the provision of solar-powered streetlights would enhance security, boost commercial activities, and make movement easier for residents at night.

“This initiative by our Executive Chairman is a game-changer for our communities. With these solar-powered streetlights, our streets will be safer, businesses can operate for longer hours, and our people can move freely without fear,” he stated.
The Councillor reiterated his commitment to bringing more development projects to Ward 14, stressing that collaborative efforts between the local government leadership and community stakeholders remain crucial for sustainable progress.

Residents of Ward 14 have welcomed the project with enthusiasm, describing it as a long-overdue intervention. 

Some community members expressed their appreciation, noting that the lights would help reduce criminal activities, particularly at night. 

They also highlighted the economic benefits of improved illumination for traders and small business owners.

One of the residents, Alhaji Azeez Adedigba who is also the APC party secretary of the local government commended the local government leadership for prioritizing infrastructure that serves the people. 

“We are grateful for this project. Now, our streets are well-lit, and we feel safer. We urge the government to continue with initiatives like this that directly benefit us,” he said.

Hon. Olabiyi Victor Olusola assured the people of Ward 14 that more projects aimed at community development would be executed soon. 

He urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure by ensuring the proper maintenance and protection of the installed streetlights.
