The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked claims of a heavy terrorist presence in the Lugbe axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), dismissing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 2, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, refuted allegations that 79 terrorists were taking refuge in Lugbe or that a curfew had been imposed in the area. He urged the public to disregard the message, which he described as a fabrication meant to incite panic and destabilize the peace in the FCT.
“From intelligence gathered by the Force Intelligence teams and other security agencies, there are no terrorists taking refuge in Lugbe. The message, purportedly signed in my name, is entirely false and misleading.”
The Nigeria Police Force emphasized that such misinformation is often spread by individuals with malicious intent. Adejobi urged citizens to rely only on official police channels—@PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram—for verified security updates.
He further called for responsible sharing of information, cautioning the public against spreading unverified security alerts that could cause unnecessary panic.
“Citizens should disregard any news that does not originate from authentic police sources and avoid unnecessary alarm over unverified social media posts.”
Assuring residents of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safety and security, Adejobi encouraged vigilance and urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via official emergency contact lines.
